Fruit of the Spirit

Summer Fruit Devotion: Faithfulness Day 5

Divine Power

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:3-11

Christ living in me? Divine Power? Yes please! Of course everybody wants divine power but nobody wants to pay the price. Well, the good news is Jesus paid the price. The good news is Jesus loved you and gave himself for you. He was faithful all the way to death on the cross. He gives you his faithful life and takes your sin and death. When we resist walking by faith we are forgetting that we’ve been cleansed from all our sins. When we sneak around in sin instead of building up our faith we become blind, ineffective and unfruitful. But when we crucify our flesh with Christ and yield to the Spirit we can increase in the qualities Peter lists here, then we become effective witnesses for Christ, both fruitful in and faithful to our calling.

Journal time. Have you been crucified with Christ? Have you surrendered your life to God? If you have then His divine power has given you everything you need for life and godliness. Write out the qualities from Peter’s passage beginning with faith and ending with love. Pray over the ones you want to be increasing in your life.

Pray with me today. Heavenly Father, what a crazy trade, that Jesus gave us his life and took our sin. And then you give us divine power and Christ in us to live in this world. Help us keep our eyes fixed on the cross so that we never forget. We don’t want to walk around blinded by worldly desires but we want to be partakers of the divine nature. Help us to grow from faith all the way to pure love. We surrender to you and the calling you’ve placed on us to live by faith in Jesus. In the faithful and powerful name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
