When I decided to take on the Swan Lake retelling, I wasn’t all that familiar with the tale so I immersed myself in it. I spent time trying to understand the characters and unravel the emotional beats. I found a world of magic, love and betrayal that touched my heart. What came out is the story of Evangeline, a lonely girl searching out the mysteries of a dried up lake and the extinct swans who once lived there. She makes some unexpected friends, and finds hope when it seemed all was lost.

I’ve always loved short stories. They’re like a window into a wider world. They can take us quickly to the heart of the matter, and go surprisingly deep into the characters because there’s no time or words to waste. C is for Curse features six very different stories, but all relating in some way to the Swan Lake mythology.
